Our NEWEST Film Terugkeer van ‘n Soldaat is a 25 minute Afrikaans supernatural drama.
Carolus has died in Italy in the second world war, but his mother Elma’s love is keeping him bound to wonder amongst the living.
Carolus has haunted his mother for three years, every Wednesday, but on the hundred and fiftieth Wednesday, Carolus might just have a chance to move on, if he allows someone unexpected to help him.

A BIT MORE FROM OUR SIDE...
The short film is based on Dolf van Niekerk’s short story with the same name, which was published in Verlore Paradyse by NJ Snyman. The success of this film relies on the experimentation of adapting Afrikaans literature into film. The style will also be contributing to its uniqueness. The film will be shot with stylistic horror elements in mind, such as lighting, jump cuts and camera angles.

WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS FILM?
We are passionate about Afrikaans stories!
- We as students are required to make these productions because it is part of our syllabus at CityVarsity. We are currently in 3rd year and we are required to produce a 30-minute short film for our graduation project. We are the only group in our year that choose to make an Afrikaans film.
- We are choosing to tell this story in particular because it is part of Afrikaans literature and it stays true to what we would like to achieve as a production company which is to explore the art of adaptation and to understand how we can deliver narratives that has been adapted from Afrikaans literature.
- Our goal is not to make a profit from this film but to learn from it so that we have the opportunity to provide better entertainment content as professionals.
